Battle of the Coast swim clubs

-

WORLD Championship and Commonwealth Games hopefuls will rub shoulders with some of the best rising stars of swimming at the 2022 Gold Coast Swimming Championships that begin today.

The biggest swimming meet of the year for purely Gold Coast clubs will provide one of the final chances for athletes, including rising sprint sensation Flynn Southam from Bond University, to test themselves with around 10 weeks before selection trials for the world titles and 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games.

It is also a good hitout for juniors who will be competing at the national championships in the next month.

The Gold Coast Aquatic Centre will play host to this weekend’s titles, with racing held between 8.30am and 2pm on Saturday and Sunday. Twenty Gold Coast clubs will be represented at the meet, along with teams from Hong Kong and South Africa.

A timed finals format will be used, with swimmers seeded into different heats and given one shot to produce the fastest time of an event in order to win.
