‘TWINS’ REUNITE AT 80

- MELANIE WHITING

“TWINS” from Southport have reunited for the first time in a decade to celebrate a milestone birthday together.

Lorelle Dimmick and Len Neilsen were both born in Dr Walter A. Mackey’s private hospital in Scarborough St on March 16, 1942.

The pair formed a unique bond and have celebrated significant birthdays together ever since. On their 21st, the Bulletin reported on the celebration in an article with the headline: “‘Twins’ still together at 21”.

So it was only fitting that the Bulletin would cover their joint 80th birthday celebration this week.

The friends invited 50 family and friends to a dinner at HOTA’S Panorama Room, with performances from Opera Queensland, ballet students and the Angel Strings quartet.

Mr Neilsen said although the two kept in touch over the years via texts and phone calls, he had not seen Mrs Dimmick for about 10 years.

“It’s a special bond,” he said. “We used to see quite a bit of one another as kids and growing up during school. As you get older, you tend to go your separate ways.

“It’s always good when we get together and we have a lot of fun.”

Mrs Dimmick, who lives near Hervey Bay, described her 80th as “absolutely marvellous”.

“It was great catching up. Len is a kind, gentle person.”
