Counsellor denies false Mau’u report

- LEA EMERY

POLICE allege a counsellor gave false reports about an accused Mongols bikie to two different Gold Coast courts.

She “absolutely denies” the charges.

Carly-lee Allen allegedly gave a false report to the Southport Magistrates Court last June during a bail hearing for James Winston Mau’u.

In October, when Mau’u was being sentenced in the Southport District Court for grievous bodily harm, Ms Allen allegedly provided another report that contained false information.

The Bilambil Heights woman has been charged with two counts of attempting to pervert the course of justice – on June 4 and October 13.

It will be alleged Ms Allen provided written reports with false information to the court on both occasions.

Ms Allen’s lawyer Rodney Keyte, of TWC Lawyers, said Ms Allen “absolutely denied” the charges. “It really is quite a weak Crown case,” he said.

Police allege Ms Allen’s report tendered during Mau’u’s district court sentence resulted in a four-and-a-half year prison term, with parole eligibility in February next year.

Mau’u used a 5kg weight plate to bludgeon a man at the World Gym in Coomera in February 2020.

During the sentence the court was told Mau’u thought the victim had directed a racial slur towards him.

After the charges were laid against Ms Allen there was an application to reopen Mau’u’s sentence for the grievous bodily harm. Judge Geraldine Dann determined the allegations were not serious enough to warrant rehearing the sentence.

Ms Allen, 40, appeared in the Southport Magistrates Court last week. The matter was adjourned until next month. Ms Allen operates Carly Allen Counselling out of offices in the Tweed area. Her website lists services such as criminal psychology, relationship counselling and veteran mental support.
