GOLDEN GLOW TO PRIDE PARTY

- BRIANNA MORRIS-GRANT gcrainbowcommunities.com.

IT’S time for “rainbows after the rain” as the Gold Coast’s Pride Festival finally returns for another year.

The festival is hosting a series of events across the final week of March, ending with a beach parade and fair on Saturday, March 26.

Organisers say it’s the only Pride Parade in the world held on the sand.

”I only realised once we started how important the visibility is,” said festival co-director Danni Zuvela.

“Being visible and being free to be yourself goes along with feeling proud, because if you have to hide, how can you be proud?

“We get people coming to us every day who are just coming out at 27, 37, 67 years old.

“There is a lot about the Gold Coast that’s pretty camp. It’s loud, it loves to party.

“I mean even on Macintosh Island, you’ve got peacocks strutting their stuff.”

Both the beach parade and pride fair are free and “family-friendly” with stage shows, market stalls and multiple activities for every member of the family.
