STATE’S COVID-19 CASES PASS 30K

-

QUEENSLAND recorded 6103 new Covid-19 cases on Friday, with 11 deaths.

Case numbers were down slightly from Thursday’s spike to 7190, which was the most Queensland had seen for more than a month.

There are now 34,075 active cases in the state, which is the most Queensland has had at one time since February 20.

The number of deaths increased by one since Thursday, as did the number of people in intensive care units, which reached 20 on Friday.

Case numbers have fluctuated over the past few weeks as workers returned to the office and the mask mandate came to an end.

Experts have also flagged the potentially more infectious Omicron sub-variant BA.2, which could cause case numbers to slowly rise.

It comes as health experts in NSW warn that BA.2 could cause infections to double in four to six weeks.

Vaccination rates in Queensland have also been on a slow climb, with the state hitting 91.39 per cent double dose as of March 16.
