Help for transition to NDIS
GOLD Coast families who have children with disability can access free support to help them transition to the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) Local Area Co-ordination (LAC) program.
When children turn seven, they graduate from their Early Childhood Approach (ECA) partner to the NDIS LAC program.
Carers Queensland, which has offices in Ashmore and Coolangatta, is Queensland’s largest LAC partner and this year will support more than 3000 children and families to move to the NDIS.
The organisation’s ECA transition specialist Jenny Dodd said that the biggest difference for families when transitioning was the focus on short-term and long-term goals.
“Short-term goals can usually be completed in less than 12 months, with long-term goals potentially taking several years to achieve,” she said.
“The role of a child’s LAC is to support them to develop a plan and connect them with services and supports that best suit their needs.”
