What time do you wake up on a Saturday?

I normally wake up between 5-5.30am most mornings and that is the same for a Saturday. I like to get out of bed quietly and make my way into the lounge room to have a cup of coffee and read a book for 30 minutes to an hour before my wife Taneal and kids (Paxton, 6, and Coven, 3) wake up.

Best place to go with kids?

Our six-year-old son plays sport on a Saturday morning. We like to make a morning of it so we will walk down to the park, grab a coffee and watch him play.

Favourite park?

The park at Bulimba has a great atmosphere with plenty of nice people and a great family vibe. We spend a lot of time there.

Best spot for date night?

I would flip a coin between Hellenika on James St and Terrace Rooftop Bar at The Emporium in Southbank. Whenever I get asked what my two favourite lunch/dinner restaurants are, those two come to mind first.

Favourite takeaway?

Downtown Istanbul on Hawthorne Rd. That is one of our locals. I eat decent-sized meals and “The King’s Feast”, with mixed grill, always guarantees a full stomach for me and the two boys.

Local coffee haunt?

Bellissimo on Oxford St has always had great coffee and breakfast. That’s our weekend spot. On my way to training every morning I stop at Hawthorne Garage to pick up my “large oat milk cap”. It makes the drive to training enjoyable and sets a great tone for the morning.

Where and when do you exercise?

Exercising has always been in my life and part of my job. I’ve exercised four to six days a week for the past 20 years. I will never stop doing it.

Best hidden treasure in Queensland?

Bulimba is the best hidden treasure in Queensland, especially the big park. I take my two boys there in the afternoons when school is finished and we’ll run around playing games. Whoever looks after the grass there deserves a gold medal!

Favourite place to holiday in Queensland?

Most of our holidays have been overseas. Our friends have always recommended that we go to Qualia on Hamilton Island. Apparently it is heaven on earth.

What’s your idea of the perfect Saturday? The perfect Saturday for me is simple. Wake up early for a coffee and read before the family gets up. Then take my kids to the park, watch them play sport and catch up with other parents. We have a nice light lunch together as a family then in the afternoon I’ll mow the lawn then cook an early barbecue with a couple of glasses of red.
