Scoring maiden NRLW try for the Gold Coast Titans is absolute Brill

- NICK WRIGHT

IN the aftermath of the most ‘surreal’ moment of Destiny Brill’s fledgling career, the Titans lock is now bracing for her biggest challenge yet.

The first ever NRLW Queensland derby between Gold Coast and the Brisbane Broncos will grace Cbus Super Stadium today, with the home side out to avenge last week’s defeat.

However, even in their 24-14 heartbreak to Parramatta, Brill was able to register her first try in Gold Coast colours, while inspirational veteran Steph Hancock also stormed over for her maiden NRLW four-pointer.

Ahead of what will be a historic double-header on the Glitter Strip, with the Titans’ NRL outfit taking on the Warriors as well, Brill lauded the influence the 40-year-old Hancock had on the young group.

As for her own milestone, she quickly downplayed her own try, immediately looking towards a return to the winner’s circle against the Broncos.

“It felt pretty surreal but I wouldn’t have got it if it wasn’t for the team,” Brill said.

“It’s definitely exciting having the first Queensland derby. I’m nervous but stoked. I think the focus is definitely work as a team instead of as individuals. All the girls are keen and ready to win it on Saturday.”

The NRLW clash will kick off from 11.50am, with the NRL sides to follow at 2pm.
