HERE’S CHEERS TO A NEW ASIAN EATERY

- KAITLYN SMITH

A GROUP of mates are fast becoming Gold Coast’s latest hospitality giants, launching a new modern Asian eatery in the heart of Burleigh.

KAMI, owned by Mitch and Marcus Ryan and Anthony Bartolo, specialises in share-style plates showcasing the tasty cuisine.

It was little more than five months ago that they opened cafe Magnolia Lane, on the same site along the Gold Coast Highway.

“It made sense logistically for us to be able to use the same kitchen, storage but also have the two separate dining spaces,” Mitch Ryan said.

“The site had sat dormant for a while, and it probably wasn’t an attractive prospect for others but for us and what we wanted to do it made sense.”

Mitch and Marcus operate a venue of the same name in Victoria, but knew the Coast was the perfect spot for a second site: “Up here is a bit more of a bar and dining experience. We’ve got a much higher focus on alcohol and cocktails. It’s an entertaining dining experience, we want people to come here, be interactive and to know us on a personal level,” Mitch said.

Popular dishes include the chicken karaage, fresh oysters and bao buns, according to Marcus.

“A lot of the concepts come from Mav, our chef back in Victoria. It’s designed for everyone to share plates. It’s all about bringing people together,” he said.

Find KAMI at Shop 5/1863 Gold Coast Hwy, Burleigh Heads, Queensland 4220.
