Safety call from police for Easter

-

POLICE have launched an Easter road safety campaign and are reminding families to travel safely this holiday period.

Last year’s Easter long weekend saw six road-related deaths across the state.

Assistant Commissioner Ben Marcus said it was crucial that everyone put road safety first.

“We know everyone is eager to get to their holiday destinations, but it’s important to ensure everyone is driving to the conditions and avoiding driving tired,” he said.

“There will be increased traffic on our roads, all throughout the state.

“Travelling can mean driving on unfamiliar roads and through a variety of environments and weather. Day or night-time, ensure you drive to the conditions.”

Mr Marcus warned motorists to not drive affected by drugs and alcohol, and urged them to be patient and plan their trip accordingly.

“You can expect to see police anywhere, anytime conducting roadside operations and patrolling our roads,” he said.

“While your safety is our concern, road safety is everyone’s responsibility. Please be careful. Every decision you make behind the wheel, counts.

“One life lost is too many. Help us make sure there is no dampener on this holiday period for you or your loved ones.”
