SOUND OF SYMPHONY SPREADS JOY

- SAM STOLZ

IF THERE’S one thing that gets 92year-old Arthur Waring out of bed in the morning it’s the soul-soothing sounds of a symphony.

In fact, the former organist loves the Queensland Symphony Orchestra so much, the spritely senior literally

jumped for joy when they rocked up to perform at his aged care home.

The orchestra surprised Mr Waring and residents at Aveo Ashmore for a show on Wednesday.

Mr Waring said he felt “so special” the orchestra paid him a visit.

“I’m no longer able to get up to Brisbane to listen to them so I was

thrilled they came to perform,” he said. “It felt great to be able to share the experience with my friends.

“I love that the Queensland Symphony Orchestra is a maturing orchestra. It’s been a pleasure to see them grow over the last 35 years since I moved to Queensland.”

Mr Waring said it was wonderful to

“sit and see the teamwork, talent and showmanship” from the musicians.

The show was part of the orchestra’s “We’re sharing the joy” program, which organises performances for Queenslanders who need an uplifting of spirits after spending months in isolation during the pandemic.
