More jobs than ever

JOB vacancies are reaching record highs through the pandemic, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics.

There were 423,000 vacancies in February – 27,000 more than November 2021 and about 200,000 more than February 2020.

The industries with the biggest growth have been accommodat­ion and food services (213 per cent), arts and recreation services (211 per cent), and rental, hiring and real estate services (191 per cent) – all customer-facing jobs.

“Vacancies were much higher than before the pandemic, with many continuing to report difficulti­es in filling their vacancies,” the ABS’S Bjorn Jarvis said.
