MAGIC FLOWS THROUGH THE CANALS OF IDYLLIC MERMAID WATERS

- VIVA HYDE

MILLION-DOLLAR home sales in Mermaid Waters may have spiked in the past decade – but the suburb has maintained its “magic” appeal, homeowner Kellie Howell says.

Ms Howell said Mermaid Waters had provided an idyllic lifestyle for her family, close to shops, transport and school for her 14-year-old twins, Lily and Lucy, but away from the traffic and noise of central Gold Coast.

“There might be areas of Mermaid Waters that have changed, but ours hasn’t and I think that’s magic,” Ms Howell said.

“You’ve got a beautiful water outlook, wide streets and settled neighbours. And it’s four minutes to Pacific Fair – what’s not to love?”

Offers of more than $2.95m are sought for the Howells’ family home of eight years, a luxury waterfront property marketed by Christine Tucker, of Harcourts Coastal.

The four-bedroom, threebathroom home at 11 Crestmore Ct located on a large 969sq m lot in Paradise Quays Estate last changed hands in 2014 for $1.3m.

The double-storey house has 35m waterfrontage, with views from almost every room. There’s a media room and office as well as a coffee station or bar; while bifold doors open on to a large alfresco entertaining pavilion with built-in outdoor kitchen overlooking the pool and spa.

Data from Corelogic reveals huge price growth, with 57.8 per cent of homes sold in Mermaid Waters in 2021 priced at $1m or more.

In 2011, that figure was just 3.5 per cent.

The family made the “difficult” decision to sell after purchasing an off-the-plan beachside apartment in Kirra.

Ms Howell said they would be sad to leave, but were ready for a lifestyle change after the recent sale of her Main Beach cosmetic clinic.
