Tackling new development
BRISBANE Broncos assistant coach John Cartwright has turned his hand to property development, building two duplexes on a block he owns in upmarket Currumbin.
The former Australian international and inaugural coach of the Gold Coast Titans has teamed with Sydney developer Omira Property Group for the build.
Having picked up the property at 20 Hooper Dr in 2007 for $675,000, Mr Cartwright’s plans for the block were put on the backburner as he moved around for football.
“But I’m back around the Gold Coast now and I noticed a similar-size property had been knocked down next door and some nice townhouses built there,” he said.
“There was nothing like it in the street. I liked the look of it and its in the perfect spot for the type of a development, just a short walk from Currumbin Alley. I thought I’d like to do something similar.
“I came across Alasdair (Baker of Omira Group) by accident when he contacted me about something to do with the build at No.18.”
Named Pacifica, the development will consist of two duplexes that will be an improved version of the townhouses completed by Omira next door.
Rising to four levels, the homes offer 240sq m of living space, including a spacious rooftop terrace with lounges, dining area and an arbour.
Inside, three bedrooms are on the second floor along with two bathrooms and a study, while the open-plan kitchen, living and dining rooms are below. On the ground level is a lockup garage.
The homes are priced from $1.775m.
Mr Baker says the homes offer exceptional value.
“So much of this stock on the Coast is selling for $12,000 to $15,000 a square metre, so at 240sq m these homes should come in at the $2.9m price mark. So to get something of this size in this tightly held area is really cheap.”
Pacifica and The Palms at No. 18 are the first foray into the Gold Coast market for Omira Group.
