Push to end Higgins trial

-

THE man charged with raping Brittany Higgins in Parliament House has applied for his trial to be permanently halted in the ACT Supreme Court.

Bruce Lehrmann’s barrister, David Campbell SC, appeared in court on Friday to seek the permanent stay of proceedings or, alternatively, a temporary one to delay the trial. The trial is set down for six weeks in June.

ACT Director of Public Prosecutions Shane Drumgold also appeared in court on Friday. Chief Justice Lucy Mccallum reserved her decision until next week.

There is a non-publication order on the evidence in Friday’s hearing until her judgment is handed down.

Mr Lehrmann has pleaded not guilty to allegedly raping Ms Higgins in the office of Senator Linda Reynolds on March 23, 2019.
