Weekend Gold Coast Bulletin

TAKE HEED OF OWN ADVICE, TOM

-

IN the past two months, Mayor Tom Tate has written two opinion pieces in the Gold Coast Bulletin defending his own logic and reasoning. The first included sage advice concerning the manner of the chief health officer Dr John Gerrard:

“I like straight shooters and the state’s chief health officer has won the trust of so many Queenslanders for telling it like it is,” he wrote in February.

“Dr John Gerrard’s messaging is succinct and pragmatic ...”

A month later, Mr Tate strongly rebuked criticism from Home Affairs Minister Karen Andrews that he had used the spruiking of three key federal funding projects as a “stunt”.

In conclusion to his article, he wrote: “Through the past decade as Mayor, every issue I have raised publicly is about the city’s best interests – not mine. I’ll continue to wear a gold tie, to symbolise my role in always putting the Gold Coast first over any other political colour.”

Mr Tate loves this city. That is undeniable. He has brought great change to many facets of society and is a successful businessman who does not need the money of a ratepayerfunded position.

However, he should take heed his own advice.

It is in the city’s best interest to know how much it is paying for a pastor and whether he follows a controversial religion that believes, in part, in a Godgiven authority to take over the world.

In his own words from a month ago, it is in the city’s best interests.
