YELLOW BRICK ROAD LEADS TO HOTA

- JEREMY PIERCE

A NEW exhibition on the Gold Coast is adding to the everlasting popularity of LEGO – brick-by-brick.

Acclaimed builder Ryan “Brickman” Mcnaught is the brains behind the new Bricktionary: The interactive LEGO exhibition at the HOTA gallery with more than 150 exhibits featuring models from the LEGO Masters TV

show and new interactive experiences, including an earthquake machine to test your own building skills.

Millions of LEGO bricks were used in the exhibition, with some models taking hundreds of hours to complete.

After the huge success of last year’s Wonders of the World exhibition in Brisbane, Brickman said the new event was more “hands-on”.

“It’s a lot more interactive and you

get to participate yourself,” he said.

“You can build structures and submit them to earthquake forces on our Richter scale machine and learn how to build characters and make moving joints.”

He said LEGO’S enduring popularity was helped by people looking for an escape from the everyday pressures of the modern world.

“It’s escapism,” he said. “You can

immerse yourself in your own world.”

HOTA CEO Criena Gehrke shared in the excitement for the world-first exhibition.

“LEGO has charmed families for generations, and we’re thrilled to be working with The Brickman team to present the world premiere of a brand-new interactive exhibition here on the Gold Coast at HOTA,” she said.

The exhibition runs until August 7.
