DIVING IN TO RECORD BOOK

- MELANIE WHITING

A GOLD Coast 13-year-old has her sights set on the 2032 Paralympics after her recordbreaking performance at the QGSSSA Swimming Championships.

St Hilda’s student Holly Warn set an Australian long-course multiclass record for 50m butterfly with a time of 46.62 seconds.

Holly won all of her events and was awarded the Inaugural Open Multiclass Pennant.

Born with cerebral palsy hemiplegia, after having a stroke pre-birth at six months of age Holly’s left side was showing signs of cerebral palsy.

Her family was told swimming would help build strength and since then she has been training five to six times a week.

St Hilda’s head aquatic coach and former Australian Paralympic swim mentor Jon Bell said the school planned to further develop a competitive pathway for its swimmers.

“Holly’s performances to date have been outstanding for a young swimmer and while she still has a long way to go, she is making all the right moves from both a training and performance perspective,” he said.
