HOT SHOT MEETING THAT TURNED INTO 49 YEARS OF MARRIAGE

TAKEN in 1995 when Alfie, aka Michael Caine, and his wife Shakira came to town.

With them is legendary hotelier Erhard Hotter, the general manager at Sheraton Mirage Resort, as it was then.

Michael first laid eyes on Shakira in a Maxwell

House coffee commercial and became obsessed with finding the woman he described as the most beautiful girl in the world.

Through connections he did and they have been married for 49 years. They were here to be guests with

Ray Martin on the Midday Show, which was being filmed at Sea World.

In 2000, they became Sir Michael and Lady Shakira Caine after Michael was knighted for services to British cinema. With more than 160 movies in the can, he has more than earned that honour. We asked Erhard for his memories of their stay. “No fuss, no bother. Genuinely nice people who were incredibly low key and didn’t want any special treatment.” That’s how we like our stars.
