Mayor: Leave while you can

-

DNIPRO: Women, children and the elderly were urged to flee the Ukrainian city of Dnipro before an expected Russian offensive, as shelling and airstrikes hampered evacuation efforts in eastern Ukraine.

Borys Filatov, the mayor of Dnipro, in central-eastern Ukraine, said “all those who have the ability . . . should leave” while they could, before a renewed Russian assault on the Donbas region.

“This involves women, children, the elderly, those who are not . . . directly integrated into the economy,” he said in an online address.

Dnipro, which before the war was home to almost one million people, has so far been spared the worst of the fighting that has devastated cities.
