Workmates turned rivals in Seagulls-bears Queensland Cup contest

- NICK WRIGHT

WILL Brimson has had his back against the wall all week. Ahead of Tweed’s rivalry round clash with Burleigh Bears, he has been copping it from every corner at work.

Brimson is one of several Queensland Cup players who plies his trade out of Ray Beaufils Electrical, however he is the only Seagull among the Bears pack.

Worse still, Burleigh edge forward Hayden Schwass was “somewhat his boss”.

But as the Seagulls five-eighth seeks to claim the Ray Mccarron Trophy, that workplace hassle will prove an extra catalyst to perform.

After two tight losses in the early days of their campaign, Brimson said the onus would fall on him and halfback Lindon Mcgrady to steer the side out of what is set to be a tightly fought contest.

“I’m the only Tweed man working there, but I stand up for the rest of us boys anyway,” Brimson said.

“Me and Lindo have been playing together a few years now, and we take that ownership as well. We’re going to have to step up; these boys have had a great start.”

Bears captain Sami Sauiluma said his side would be up for the challenge, particularly given their undefeated start had come from close clashes against highly touted rivals.

“It’s pretty easy when we verse Tweed … Rivalry Round, it’s the same whenever we verse Tweed,” he said.

“There’s a bit of history there, hopefully we keep it going on Sunday.”
