Titan defends use of Challengeallenge

-

TITANS centre Patrick k Herbert has defended his s use of the Captain’s Chal- lenge, labelling the threat t of the sin bin fair play if it gets a wrong decision overerturned.

Herbert and his teammates’ mates’ use of the challenge was called into question against the Eels when on two occasions they intentionally conceded professional fouls to challenge a missed indiscretion.

NRL head of football Graham Annesley condemned the motive and declared only an official decision could be challenged. But Herbert said exploiting it should be within the players rights if the right call was made.

“I watch a lot of footy, you see the other teams do it and you think ‘fair enough, it’s a call that’s been missed’,” Herbert said.

“It was a bit of a stretch on the weekend, but it didn’t get called so I thought you know what I’ll do it, everyone else does it so why not? We get one challenge, if it’s wrong we go to the bin. I feel like it’s a fair thing if you want to do a professional foul by stopping the game.

“If it’s the right call it’s the right call.”
