TOM’S FIGHT AN INSPIRATION TO ALL
LITTLE solace comes from heartbreaking news that a person barely out of their childhood years has only weeks to live.
That is the reality for Elanora teenager Tom Glendenning, and his family, after a second diagnosis of Ewing’s sarcoma. Oncologists give him 12-18 months to live.
Most people would kick stones and bemoan their unfair plight. For all the evil in the world, life can be extremely unjust. Instead, Tom and mother Kelly drew up a bucket list and, with it, are bringing the best out of communities eager to help him fulfil it.
The response has been overwhelming. Strangers from both New Zealand and Australia are readily giving their time, services and money to ensure Tom gets to enjoy the thrill-seeking activities he yearns.
The motivation from those business owners has been genuine and sincere. Many do not want to be identified. Some are parents themselves and, in a small way, can appreciate the anguish Tom’s family must be going through.
We hope Tom scatters the photos and videos from those experiences far and wide as his inspiration infects countless people. His legacy will be a quilt of many layers, none the least the goodness that can rise from the depths of adversity.
