BIG BROTHER FAVOURITES BACK FOR MORE

- MADELEINE GRAHAM

WHEN Trevor Butler asked his boys if he should return to the Big Brother house, they cheered.

His attention then turned to his wife across the dinner table. Her answer was succinct: “No.”

Mr Butler shot to national fame in 2004 when pocketing $1m as the winner of Big Brother series four. The Hot Tomato radio host will return to the reality TV series from Monday when old contestants clash with the new. He will be joined by 2012 fan favourite Estelle Landy.

“We were sitting down at dinner and I asked the boys, ‘would it be OK if Dad went back into the house’ and they said ‘yes’ and they were all cheering. Then I asked Bree and she said ‘no’,” Mr Butler remembered.

Ms Landy said her time on Big Brother in 2012 turned her life

upside down at age 24.

“I make this joke about sea monkeys, saying that we were kind of like celebrities add water, you know how sea monkeys grow overnight,” she said.

“We were regular people who went on the show and then came out and became sort of ‘celebrities’, which was crazy and definitely changed my life.”

The Coolangatta woman was renowned for having the most nominations and saved votes of any housemate in

Big Brother history.

Ms Landy said there were many times in her season when she felt like an “outcast”, but how this

experience only made her stronger. “There’s so many people in society who feel like they don’t fit in, but you don’t need to fit in to be OK. Just because you are standing alone does not mean that there is anything wrong with you.”

She said she almost lived a “double life” after she got off the show, returning to her government job and love for working with horses.

Ms Landy works as a horse riding coach and plans to open her own business in disability care with horses and equine rehab.

Big Brother screens from Monday on Channel 7.
