Holbrook admits to error
GOLD Coast coach Justin Holbrook admits his spine experiment has backfired going into Saturday’s round 9 clash with the Roosters in Mackay.
Holbrook’s risky playmaker selections have failed, prompting the Titans to offer Manly veteran Kieran Foran a twoyear contract to get them back on track.
Holbrook took a huge gamble going into this season when he released experienced cocaptain Jamal Fogarty to Canberra and gave rookie Toby Sexton the No.7 jersey.
He shifted livewire AJ Brimson from fullback to fiveeighth to accommodate another rookie in Jayden Campbell at the back. With poor dummy-half service from Erin Clark, Holbrook’s spine experiment has backfired big time and the Titans have lacked direction for their forward pack.
“We made a decision to go with an inexperienced spine and that has probably hurt us, if I’m being honest. We’ve fallen a little bit short,” Holbrook said.
“I’m not critical of any individual. If we can keep sticking at it … sides like the Dragons and Broncos have shown you can win a few games in a row. I don’t think we’re far off. I’m not happy with where we sit, but I don’t feel like we’re a million miles off either.”
