Charges after Surfers crash

- LUKE MORTIMER

POLICE allege a trio were found with drug pipes, dodgy credit cards and a stolen mobile phone after a fraudulently obtained hire car ploughed through a brick wall at Surfers Paradise.

Gold Coast police were called to Paradise Island after the single-vehicle crash about 7.30am on Thursday, a police spokeswoman said.

Police allege the 35-yearold man driving the car and a passenger, a 32-year-old man, fled the scene in a rideshare vehicle, but were tracked down by officers to a nearby business.

Queensland Ambulance Service treated a 40-year-old woman.

Police allege “fraudulent cards” were found on the driver, while the woman was caught with a drug pipe and was in an “erratic” state.

It’s alleged the 32-year-old man also had a drug pipe, as well as a stolen mobile phone.

Police have charged the driver with five counts of fraud, “relating to the hire of the rental car”.

The other man in the car was charged with possessing a utensil and possessing stolen property. The woman was charged with possessing a utensil. They are due to face court at a later date.
