DETECTIVES have released images of two people as part of their investigation into a dead diver found near more than $20m of cocaine.

The discovery was made on Monday morning in Newcastle, where the man was found on the banks of the Hunter River near packages containing 54kg of cocaine. The diver is yet to be formally identified.

Organised Crime Squad detectives released CCTV images of a man and a woman they believe can assist with their investigation into the matter.

The man is described as being of South American appearance, about 178cm tall and of an athletic build, while the woman is described as being of a thin build, about 150-160cm tall, with a tanned complexion and blonde/grey hair.

The release of the images follows the arrest of tour operator James “Jimmy” Blee at Cairns Airport on Wednesday over his alleged role in the importation of cocaine.
