A MAN accused of slathering himself in mud to hide from police following a serious crash will remain behind bars.

Troy Aviet, 34, had his matter mentioned in Southport Magistrates Court on Friday after he was charged with possessing dangerous drugs, possessing explosives and unlawful possession of weapons category D/H/R weapon – short firearm in public.

The Willow Vale man did not appear in court or apply for bail.

Magistrate Janice Crawford adjourned Aviet’s matter to May 23 at the request of his legal representative.

Queensland Police Service and Queensland Fire and Emergency Services were called to the Coomera Bridge overpass, northbound on the M1 after four cars collided about 5.30pm on Thursday.

Paramedics assessed a woman in her 40s, who was trapped inside one of the vehicles, another woman in her 30s, and an infant.

The woman in her 40s was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition with minor injuries.

Police said a 33-year-old woman and a 34-year-old man (Aviet) were occupants of a 2010 white Freelander Landrover station wagon,

Both fled the scene, sparking a lengthy foot pursuit, it’s alleged. The woman was arrested, but Aviet swam across Yawn Creek before he was taken into custody.
