RUBI A GEM OF THE SEAS

-

ONE of the celebs on board for the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show is Francesca Rubi (left), an Australian crew member featured on the hit reality show Below Deck USA.

She was in town for a party on Thursday night to celebrate with owners and crew of the superyacht sector and the launch of Below Deck Australia.

“It is a lifestyle I really love,” she explained. “It suits my love of travel and adventure and I would recommend working on these big boats to anyone. My mother always told me I could do anything and encouraged me to be adventurous when I started the job.

“The hours are long, it is a

bit cramped on board for us, especially with a film crew, but you go to some amazing places.

“Sleep is the big issue, but it’s like a mission, keep the guests happy and do your job.” Having watched her show, it was the size of the tips that staggered us: “Americans are used to tipping. I sat down with one very wealthy client and the tip came to $US200,000 which was split between 50 crew, but it was a bit surreal for an Aussie working it out for him.”

Francesca’s future plans? “Covid put a lot of things on hold but my exposure via the show has opened other doors and things are in the pipeline combining TV and travel for a show.

“I do want to go back to

work and I miss being on board but I’m still very busy y with things such as s this party.”
