VALENTINO AND 174 SPANISH STEPS IN HEELS

HANDS up those of you that have headlined a fashion extravaganza on the Spanish Steps in Rome for famed Italian designer Valentino?

It seems we only have one hand. Having spotted a photo of Megan Ray on social media standing beside Valentino, we asked Megan for the story.

“That was taken in 1999 and it is one of my career highlights as model in Europe,” she said.

“I was based in Milan and was one of 800 girls who turned up for the casting to celebrate the 40th anniversary of his label. Eventually, 40 of us were selected to represent every year. I do remember being very nervous as I had to walk down all 174 stone steps leading the parade in high heels.

“The dress I wore was from his very first collection so it had special significance. I worked in Europe for 10 years and modelled for Armani, Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren until I came back home to marry Tom.

“A wonderful time in my life and great memories.”
