RIDING A WAVE FOR SURFERS

-

BY chance we caught up for lunch this week with some of the people in this photograph from 1999.

It was taken at the beginning of construction for Chevron Renaissance in Surfers Paradise, the site of the famous Chevron Paradise Hotel. The original hotel was an integral part of Surfers Paradise with the Pink Elephant Bar, lush tropical gardens around the pool and the convention area, which hosted most of the big events in town including the legendary Concours d’elegance.

Some of those pictured include Keith and Thea Williams, Dorothy Jackson, Frank Goldstein, Bruce Bishop, Gaybrielle Graham,

Geulah Korman, Paula Stafford, Bette Arkinstall, John Punch, Gordon or Archie Douglas, Laurene Hassard and Billy James.

All of them had played a huge part in the making of Surfers Paradise.
