Weekend Gold Coast Bulletin

MAKE GC CALENDAR OF EVENTS SPECIAL

-

IT’S an embarrassment of riches this weekend when it comes to events on the Gold Coast. One of Australia’s biggest marina expos, the long-standing Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show finishes up on Sunday, having officially opened on Thursday.

It coincides with the giant Blues on Broadbeach music festival which takes over the Gold Coast’s dining precinct and tourism suburb.

Outside of those two big ones are the usual smattering of live shows and events, including an orchid festival at Nerang, the Blanc de Blanc cabaret show at Broadwater Parklands and Miami Marketta gigs, including a Casey Barnes show.

A big string to the Gold Coast’s bow is its events calendar.

But are we maximising the capacity with two big events – the boat show and Blues on Broadbeach – both occupying the same weekend?

Major Events Gold Coast has knocked it out of the park by securing the city one of the world’s biggest air shows for five years, starting in 2023.

But there needs to be some interrogation of the calendar and spacing to fill up the weekends, every weekend as befits the nature of a tourism capital.

Perhaps having two big events catering to different markets at the same time is a winner.

But as the city recovers from the pandemic and rebuilds its visitor stocks, packing out the schedule should be an ideal goal.

AS the hours convert into minutes, then microseconds, there I’ll be at a polling station. Then my daily changeabout of who deserves my vote, and preferences, will miraculously end for three years.

I am trying to see deeply into all their hearts to establish a moral connection. I have one in mind to replace the Fadden incumbent, while the UAP can go and do you know what.

Maybe The Bloke Upstairs with the trademark thunderous voice will send me a copy of how He voted for the House of Reps, and the Senate, because He has already pre-polled. I am hoping. DAVID HALL COOMBABAH

WE may be burdened with a gaggle of economic vandals after Saturday. To date the Labor Party has not costed their policies.

Whatever they propose will be irrelevant due to the fact that the Greens will be the tail that wags the dog. Perhaps a good analogy would be as follows. Imagine

Labor as an incompetent captain of an airline aircraft with a Green as a co-pilot.

The overbearing co-pilot is actually in charge. Make no mistake, if you are foolish enough to vote Labor you will have Green policies dictating our future.

A frightening prospect is Albo as PM being dictated to by Wong, Keneally, Marles and other Labor radicals.

It would take many pages to enumerate Labor’s insanity. However, it is adequately covered on Sky News.

Paul Murray among others give an honest assessment of Labor’s insanity and danger to our economy.

REGARDLESS of the outcome of this election, the pre-election voters have already determined the outcome.

They don’t need to wait until May 21. Actions speak louder than words. Many have voted with their feet. Albanese delaying the promised costings, matter little.

He has no experience in the economy, so his minders are preparing him for the inevitable, one way or another. His public blunders reveal his insecurity with running the country, after so little practice. Labor is a big borrower, big spender and a high taxing party. But the Coalition isn’t in the best position, either.

Talking over one another like school children, doesn’t instil confidence in voters from either side. To blame the Coalition for the trillion dollar debt, is unconscionable. No one refused the very generous Covid payments of the past two years! Many businesses would have been bankrupt, without the payments to keep them viable!

It is clear, like the USA, we are a nation divided. However, unlike America, we don’t have a gun crisis or violent protests. We need to be kinder and more reasonable in times like this, which test our mettle. We are one nation, but extremist ideology and racism can destroy the peace and prosperity we enjoy far from the madding crowd.
