TODAY’S THE DAY TO SINK YOUR TEETH INTO A BURGER

- SAM STOLZ

COOKS across the Gold Coast will be slinging burgers of all shapes, sizes and fillings towards salivating mouths today for World Burger Day.

Fancy a challenge? The Sporting Globe Robina is dishing up their Triple Double Burger, which coowner Dean Vigus says is “not for the faint-hearted”.

The beastly burger contains three types of meat (crispy fried chicken, bacon and Mexican pulled beef) and is heaped with enough mounds of cheese, pickles and mayonnaise to send you into a food coma.

Fries come with it. Mr Vigus said the burger was launched in-line with the NBA playoffs.

He advises customers willing to take up the challenge to “definitely come in on an empty stomach”.

For those not willing to go the distance, he said there were plenty of other burgers.

“I love the Buffalo Chicken Burger, it’s a hot favourite – along with the Grand Slam.”

For those who love a classic, Burleigh burger hotspot Ze Pickle has the best cheeseburgers, so says co-owner Nathan Zukerman.

“We get the most feedback on our signature cheeseburger. They fly out the door,” he said.

And while they haven’t got anything specific planned for World Burger Day, he says “every day is World Burger Day” at his eatery.

However, he did reveal a “top-secret” winter burger would be released and it was “guaranteed to please”.

National chain Betty’s Burgers are gearing up for the gluttonous day, launching Betty’s Best Ever Bundle – a $39 feed for the whole family – and a Smashing Good Time bundle, which includes a limitededition burger, french fries and soft drink for $15.
