What time do you wake up on a Saturday? TB: 5.30-6am, on and off the road. I get up, change nappies and get the kids, Winifred, 6, Marigold, 5, Henrietta, 3, and Herbert, 7 months, breakfast and have a coffee. I can’t wait for a sleep in.
JM: Depending on my Friday night, generally about 6.30-7am. If I am lucky to be home this time of year, my Saturdays consist of watching my boys – Dallyn, 17, Pere, 14, and Ziggy, 4, – play footy.
Where and when do you exercise? What do you enjoy?
TB: Weights a few times a week at the gym, but I also enjoy squash, golf or jogging.
JM: My ideal exercise is a day on the water pulling up fish, or a game of touch footy on the beach.
What’s your go-to weekend breakfast?
TB: Usually breakfast tacos at home.
JM: If I had a choice every meal would be at home with my girlfriend Alyce, 34, and the kids (including daughter Zahirah, 15). I’m not a huge breakfast person, so a simple omelette or leftover dinner on toast.
Best place to go with kids?
TB: (Wife) Huma and I love taking the boat to Currumbin Alley. We go for a swim, have some lunch and the kids fall asleep on the way home. Bliss.
JM: The Capricorn Coast has so much to offer, Keppel Island, camping on Humpy Island, Five Rocks, Stoney Creek … Favourite park/green space and why? TB: Springbrook.
JM: Mt Archer – there’s a beautiful view and in summer it’s always a bit cooler.
Best place to go with dogs?
TB: Currumbin Alley – our bernedoodle Texas loves a swim.
Local coffee haunt?
TB: Portside Coffee, Currumbin Waters, for a piccolo. It’s a great hole-in-the wall hang. JM: I don’t drink coffee but Alyce can’t drink anything if it’s not from either Gus’ Coffee or Coffee Society, Rockhampton.
Favourite takeaway?
TB: A spicy chicken burrito from Guzman y Gomez.
JM: Kinsfolk Cafe have the best breakfast in Rockhampton, otherwise Goat Cafe and Restaurant for a steak.
Best spot for date night and why?
TB: The incredible Japanese/asian fusion and very cool vibe of Etsu, Mermaid Beach, or best pizza outside of Italy at Francie’s, Cooloongatta.
JM: Goat Cafe and Restaurant, Rockhampton, then watching a gig.
Best beach and why?
TB: Currumbin, clean, local and we don’t need a car park.
JM: Putney Beach, Great Keppel Island, has possibly the clearest water in the world.
What’s your favourite live music venue?
TB: Fortitude Music Hall., Brisbane. JM: The Triffid, Brisbane.
Favourite venue to see a show?
TB: Fortitude Music Hall, Brisbane. JM: The Big Red Bash, in the Simpson Desert just west of Birdsville.
Favourite place to holiday or hidden treasure in Queensland?
TB: Great Keppel Island. JM: K’gari/fraser Island.
What’s your perfect Saturday?
TB: Waking up to a beautiful sunny day where I’m smoking food on the Kamado Joe, then heading to Currumbin Alley on the boat with the kids for a quick dip. Come home, put the footy on and have a beer with my wife.
JM: Home in bed watching Netflix and overeating at all mealtimes.
