Popular Gold Coast butchery ordered into liquidation
A POPULAR Gold Coast butchery has been ordered into liquidation after a supplier took it to court.
Whitwicky Meats, which had stores at Southport Park and Labrador Central shopping centres, went into liquidation on Tuesday.
Napwest, which trades as Clonrtarf-based Royal Wholesale Meats, applied in the Supreme Court of Brisbane to wind up Whitwicky in November.
Whitwicky did not file a response to the application and the wind-up order was issued by the corporation registrar.
Marcus Watters of Hall Chadwick has been appointed liquidator.
The butchery’s sole director and shareholder is 28-year-old Hollywell resident Jesse Minnis.
Company records show Mr Minnis had bought the business with friend Chad O’kell, 33, in 2020.
Mr O’kell’s shares in the company were transferred to Mr Minnis less than a year later in March 2021.
A third Whitwicky store opened in Ipswich’s Booval Fair shopping centre in 2021, however that has since closed down.
The Whitwicky stores had been well reviewed by customers, with many commenting on the friendly service.
“Awesome butcher with great prices and service … highly recommended,” said one reviewer.
However in September, customers to the Southport Park store were greeted by a boarded-up shopfront.
The Labrador store had also been closed intermittently, with a sign on the door telling customers the closure was due to staff illness.
Royal Wholesale Meats is directed by Gold Coast-born Redcliffe resident Daniel Forkings, 44, a former butcher who jointly owns the company with Stacey Walton, 41.
The wholesaler supplies meat to multiple businesses from the Sunshine Coast to northern NSW.
