PRIVATE CHAR TER

- Bluewatercruises.com

Channel your inner Jack Sparrow on an intimate private-charter sailing expedition around Indonesia with Blue Water Cruises. Your voyage is aboard Al Isra, a traditional wooden pinisi crafted in south Sulawesi, replete with three double cabins and two single cabins able to accommodate a maximum of 10 people.

Plus, there are a few mattresses on the top deck giving you the chance to sleep beneath the stars, should you wish.

Because that’s what this expedition is all about – anything you wish.

Being a private charter means that routes are flexible, but suggested itineraries include time docked at Lombok to explore its villages and beaches, as well as its three offshore islets to the north – Gili Trawangan, Air and Meno – where the best (sometimes only) way to get around is on foot, pedalling a bike or in a horse-drawn carriage.

To the south, your crew can also navigate to remote beaches on the isles of Gede and Nangu – stretches of sand where yours will be the only footprints.

Blue Water also provides the chance to see Lombok with your head under water, whether snorkelling or on a dive expedition.

Expect gentle currents and excellent visibility, providing a front-row seat to bright soft corals, colourful crinoids, turtles and reef sharks.

When it’s time to move on, ask your captain to chart a course for Sumbawa, perhaps, where shore excursions include jungle treks to sunken volcanic craters followed by beach picnics.

Onwards to Komodo, where you can see Indonesia’s enormous dragons in their natural habitats.

And then Sulawesi, where the tiny islands and turquoise lagoons you visit are only accessible to small ships like Al Isra.
