Gatto Corp debt collector offloads Island property

- MELANIE WHITING

A SUCCESSFUL debt collector who works for a company bearing the name of alleged Melbourne underworld identity Mick Gatto is selling his waterfront apartments in a troubled island resort.

Gatto Corp’s Anthony Swords posted a Facebook advertisement for his two waterfront marina apartments in the Couran Cove Island Resort, South Stradbroke Island, on Monday.

“For sale, two waterfront marina apartments (at) $160,000 each. Contact for more details, photos and videos,” the ad read.

Mr Swords said he was offloading the apartments to “make money”.

He said it had nothing to do with ongoing issues plaguing the island resort.

Electricity and water were disconnected to 100 homes in Couran Cove more than a week ago amid allegations of unpaid levies.

There are five body corporates involved on the island, with complex court proceedings playing out over allegations of millions of dollars in unpaid fees.

Mr Swords said the waterfront apartments for sale were still connected to water and electricity.

He said he intended to keep his eco cabin, also situated within Couran Cove, but would spend the majority of his time in Melbourne.

In an interview with the Bulletin last year, Mr Swords revealed he had settled his family on the island in December 2021.

He said he had been enchanted by the island’s natural beauty for the past 20 years after he first visited for a smoking ceremony.

Self-described as “Australia’s most successful debt collector”, Mr Swords runs a company specialising in collecting money, mediations and pre litigation.
