ALL THAT RAZZLE DAZZLE

- ASHLEIGH JANSEN

A LITTLE bit sexy. A little bit dramatic. Definitely dangerous.

That is the way internationally acclaimed illusionist Paul Cosentino sums up his new show Decennium – coming to the Gold Coast this month.

A collection of the performer’s most deathdefying acts, the new tour will be bewitching Broadbeach when it stops at The Star Gold Coast.

Cosentino said audiences should expect only the best from the upcoming tour: “the best illusions, the best escapes, the best close up magic, the best mind reading.”

Water acts, fire, dangling knives, levitation and teleportation are just some of the stunts spectators can expect to see.

“It’s all done in a very theatrical manner,” Cosentino said.

“It’s all razzle dazzle, and the audience needs to really relate to you, or adore you, or even hate you.

“You’ve got to resonate some type of emotion.”

As for the art of illusion, he says there are seven fundamental tricks. From these, anything the imagination can muster may very well be possible.

“Really, there’s only seven fundamentals in magic,” he said.

“Make something appear, disappear, you teleport something, you can levitate something and so on … So it’s down to how you rearrange all those.

“Base it off a classic. How can I do that differently? How can I make it my own? Can I make it more baffling? Can I make it more tricky?”

But as to what makes a show really work? According to Cosentino it’s “theatre”. “It’s all down to theatre,” he said.

Tickets to Decennium start from $89 via The Star Gold Coast website.
