SKY RACING’S GOLD COAST RACE CALLER MITCH MANNERS ANALYSES THE ACTION

-

CLASS 3 HCP 1540M ATON OF DELIGHT

I thought was rather good here last week. He was closing late to grab second placing after settling in the back half of the field off a modest tempo set by the eventually winner his stablemate Dickensian. I can only see him improving off that fresh run. RANGI TOA was good first-up for the Alicia Willick stable at Ipswich. He raced a little flat at Doomben last week, but he looks very well in here after the claim for Bailey Wheeler. FRESH PRINCE is low flying but this is tougher.

SELECTIONS: 3 Aton of Delight, 1 Rangi Toa, 2 Fresh Prince, 4 Exolay.

RACE 6: 3YO MAIDEN HCP 1100M

A very tough maiden race to assess. I’ve landed on ICHACHA on the back of a much improved effort last time. His fourth placing behind the likes of Menotti and Jackson on Time (see race 7) is probably the right sort of form lines for this race. IRRIGATOR was okay in town last time. POWERALONG was disappointing last time but his prior form was good enough for this. Any of DEEP MILLIONS, SO DARING or EARLSTON wouldn’t surprise if they lobbed. Play as wide as possible in this quaddie leg!

SELECTIONS: 1 Ichacha, 2 Irrigator, 5 Poweralong, 3 Deep Millions.

RACE 7: MAIDEN HCP 1200M JACKSON ON

Just about D-day for

TIME here. He missed by a nose last start at his first attempt on the poly. Having been denied victory last time by apprentice Bailey Wheeler, they join forces tomorrow and the 3kg claim looks a massive plus. I think AKERMATIVE will be winning races in her career. She was very good on debut here over 1100m. The extra 100m will only help. She just might be looking for a touch further now. I have those two clearly on top. SWANIC BOOM was disappointing at Toowoomba last time around. A repeat of her Doomben run prior and she’s in the game here.

SELECTIONS: 1 Jackson on Time, 3 Akermative, 6 Swanic Boom, 8 Bailey Boo.

RACE 8: BENCHMARK 68 HCP 1200M

A good contest to end the day. REALITY was a big winner here firstup coming from a long way back. He didn’t quite ping the same way next time but I still think the run had merit. If they go hard enough up front he’ll be the one closing late. STARTER is a different horse this prep as he shoots to make it five on the bounce. Back to 1200m is a slight negative but he’s already ticked the polytrack win box. MINTO’S PARADISE could be dangerous first-up and DARK HORSE can easily bounce back. Deep race.

SELECTIONS: 3 Reality, 4 Starter, 2 Minto’s Paradise, 5 Dark Horse.
