A Mexican restaurant with waterfront views and a delectable menu has opened in what the manager says is the next up-and-coming Gold Coast night precinct.

Mulpha Hospitality Group which are the brains behind Edgewater, Loesco Cucina, Cove Tavern as well as Anchor Buoy Cafe and Bar recently opened Isla Cantina at Capri on Via Roma.

Isla Cantina manager Pablo Uribe said the location was their inspiration behind the Mexican restaurant which has a Californian twist.

“Isle of Capri is just a stunning setting,” he said.

“It’s got the energy of the Gold Coast but its location set just back from central Surfers Paradise gives it this layer of luxe.

“You get this energy at night when the lights of the city are glistening and you’re sipping on Isla Cantina cocktails.”

The 100-seated venue offers Mexican dishes including a BBQ flank steak with bone marrow butter, pork belly chicharon tacos and wagyu meat ball with manchego and chipotle.

Mulpha’s area executive chef for Queensland Mark

Marshall said: “We are thrilled to bring a whole new taste offering to the Gold Coast that is fresh, fast and fun with authentic flavours and fabulous ingredients.

“You don’t need a lot of ingredients to make great food. You just need to combine great flavours and prepare it the right way.”

Mr Uribe said drinks included Paloma and margaritas, Mexican beer cocktails and a michelada (their take on the bloody mary).

“The outdoor area feels so comfortable and cool,” he said.

“We wanted it to be the kind of place you arrive for a drink and stay all day. We traditionally host the people who love a good local dining spot, where people know your name and you can get a seamless experience.”
