Dog-friendly cafe with ‘heart and soul’ closes
A dog-friendly neighbourhood cafe is closing this weekend after eight years in the Gold Coast’s CBD.
Southport’s Parcbah Espresso announced it would be serving its final coffee on Sunday.
Owner Todd Cawe said he had to call time after being faced with another fiveyear lease for the venue.
“The running costs and overheads are getting too expensive,” he said.
“Rent, electricity and wages are all going up. RBA interest rates are now biting the locals and they are feeling the pinch.”
Mr Cawe said, while he had loved his time at the Southport venue, he wasn’t willing to risk another five years in this market.
“It has been a memorable eight years servicing Alicia Street,” he said.
“My humble thank you for all for the support and memories, good friends and obviously our furry friends.
“Without them we wouldn’t have survived this long.”
Opposite a popular dog park, Parcbah is a previous winner of the Gold Coast Bulletin’s best pet-friendly cafe, as voted by readers.
Locals were devastated to hear the news with some saying they will miss their “smooth coffee and tasty treats”.
“I’m so sorry to hear this,” one local said. “I have had so many family occasions here.
“I have loved this incredible place, everything served with heart, soul and integrity.”
Division 6 councillor Brooke Paterson said she was sad to hear her “favourite” coffee shop was closing.
“We will miss you so much Todd,” she said.
Another resident commented on their announcement post and said she was heartbroken to hear the news.
“All the hard work that goes into a place like you have both created is heartbreaking to close after eight years,” Julie Lamb said.
“Better things are to come for you both. “One door closes and another door opens.”
