Feline lucky for new home
Lately, Lucky hasn’t been living up to his name.
The eight-year-old domestic shorthair is one of almost 100 adult cats waiting for a home as the cost-of-living crisis contributes to cat-pacity conditions.
“Lucky (first) came into our care in 2017 and was saved from tick paralysis and certain death,” AWLQ spokesman Craig Montgomery said
“He has since been living his best life with his new dad, who sadly passed away.
“He has been waiting for a new home since January.”
Mr Montgomery said the organisation had more than 220 animals available for adoption with an evergrowing stream of new arrivals attributed to the tough economic climate.
“Our cat capacity is currently nearing a maximum level,” he said.
“We currently have 97 adult cats available for adoption and more are waiting for space in the adoption areas to become available.
“Additionally, we are caring for more than 1100 animals daily who are in various stages of their journey – surrenders, strays or emergency boarders.”
To make more room at the inn, the shelter will launch an adult cat sale on Saturday until April 30, reducing the adoption fee from $180 to $29.
The promotion includes three-year-old Columbo, who wasn’t feline his best when he came into the AWLQ’S care but is now ready to meet his new family.
“He has had nearly $2000 in veterinary treatment, including an eye lift and has been waiting four months to find a home,” Mr Montgomery said.
“There is no greater gift to an animal in our care than a loving home.
“The life you save today will change yours.”
