Suns out to do their best and Rizeup for those in need

- Jake Garland

The Suns might be chasing the clubs first finals berth, but it is what they are doing off field that has them kicking goals

Gold Coast will play in its fourth annual “Rizeup” clash on Saturday night when it takes on Hawthorn at People First Stadium.

Rizeup Australia supports those going through domestic violence, helping families in need who are struggling.

Gold Coast Suns’ Sam Collins, an ambassador for the cause, said it is really incredible to be able to support those who are in need.

“They go into an empty dwelling and fully kit that out with furniture, toys for the kids, towels, with food,” Collins said.

“Pretty much everything you need to live in there from day one.

“They are a great charity and always have been.”

Collins has been involved with the charity since he moved to the club in 2019.

“You feel good about yourself by creating the environment for these people to go to,” Collins said. “The one yesterday (Thursday) was a mum and a young child.

“I found it really quite eye opening that when people are having children at this club they are getting a lot of presents and gifts from loved ones.

“These people don’t have that and to see them walking into homes with onesies, with books, toys for the baby, food to start off, a TV, the mums room is all prepped and ready to go.

“It is rewarding as a volunteer for Rizeup but what they do is absolutely tremendous.

“What they are aiming is to eradicate family domestic violence and they do a great job in doing that.”

The Suns will run out against the Hawks on Saturday night with the first bounce at 7:30pm at People First Stadium.
