Dress-up celebrates boarding
METHODIST Ladies’ College (MLC) students celebrated National Boarding Week in style last week, raising funds for Royal Flying Doctor Service.
Boarding prefect Bonnie Hyatt said she and her boarding executive wanted to give back to the service, which touched many boarding families across rural WA.
“We figured the best way to raise money would be to hold a dress-up day, because all the students at MLC love dressing up,” she said.
“I saw so many girls dressed up around the school wearing flannel shirts, high-vis and jeans.”
Ms Hyatt grew up on a wheat, barley and canola farm an hour northeast of Esperance, attending primary school in Condingup and heading to MLC at the start of Year 8.
“It was quite different when I came to MLC; there were more than six kids in my class,” she said.
“Boarding is the best thing that has ever happened to me. You grow to love every girl in the boarding house as your own sister and make special family bonds for life.”
