Hope and inspiration
MISS Africa Perth 2018 Gladys Serugga will be part of a fashion parade at the Nakuru Hope Inspirational Luncheon this month.
The annual luncheon, which raises money for the Kenyan-based project founded by South Fremantle resident Susan Saleeba, will feature this year’s Miss Africa Perth contestants.
Beya Model Agency founder and 2010 Miss Personality Astrid Tshidibu from Canning Vale will coordinate the fashion parade.
Miss Tshidibu, who speaks five languages, was born in the Democratic Republic of Congo and grew up in Belgium and Germany before moving to Perth in 2008.
This year’s luncheon at the Royal Perth Yacht Club will also feature guest speakers Casta Tungaraza, who founded Miss Africa Perth, and former long distance swimmer Shelley Taylor-smith, as well as Ali Bodycoat, of Perth, as MC.
Major auction items include dinner for 50 people cooked in your home, a Smiths Beach Resort accommodation package and a bespoke piece from Rohan Jewellery.
Money raised this year will go towards a new boys’ orphanage being built on Nakuru Hope’s farm that will enable the existing orphanage in the Kaptembwa slums to care for more young girls.
Ms Saleeba said the money would also help re-home families who had been hit by recent floods in Kenya.
