Celebrating 100 years of the railway ambulance
LOOK BACK: To celebrate the 100th anniversary of Queensland Ambulance, Historic House staged a relaunch of the Charleville Rail Ambulance on July 25, 1992, with a trip to the then Dalgety's Siding about 3km, and the first station, east of town. After the initial run, 'joy rides’ were conducted throughout the day with a special ticket printed to mark the event. About five or six passengers joined the crew for each of the 6km return journeys. At the siding, passengers alighted while the vehicle was turned on the turntable for the return journey. Pictured is the cancelled ticket, No 106, used on the journey.
