Slow down with iconic rail trip
The Indian Pacific: Australia’s Longest Train Journey, SBS, Sunday at 7.30pm
SBS is bringing the slow TV movement back to screens in 2019 with its Slow Summer programming.
Four marathon slow TV events, three hours each in prime time on SBS and streaming live on SBS On Demand, will air each Sunday in January. The full journeys of up to 18 hours will be shown on SBS VICELAND.
First up is the transcontinental Indian Pacific, which played a pivotal part in linking the far-flung west coast with the eastern states.
The impacts of this railway line, which crosses Australia from Perth to Sydney, are explored including how it impacted indigenous Australians on the Nullarbor Plain, the new colony of South Australia and the indigenous trade route of the Blue Mountains.
