Life begins at 40
There’s nothing like a celebration, especially when it’s combined with a hot hatch. VW has its hands full sorting out the Dieselgate scandal, but found time to create a 40th anniversary edition of its legendary Golf GTI.
Key is a more powerful version of the 2.0-litre turbo. Power jumps to 195kw (up from 162kw in the regular GTI and 169kw in the GTI Performance), with an overboost function that ups that to 213kw – more than the 206kw peak in the all-wheel-drive Golf R.
The GTI 40 Years also gets bigger brakes, a differential lock, adjustable dampers and 19-inch alloy wheels, as well as new bumpers, black mirrors, an optional black roof and various active safety features.
