Cobra fetches record price

Wheels (Australia) - - Redline -

The very first Shelby Cobra ever made has sold at auction for a whopping $18 million. No, you didn’t read it wrong, that’s 18 followed by six zeros! The sale makes the Shelby 260 Cobra, known as the CSX 2000, the most expensive American car ever sold. The record-breaking sale took place at the RM Sotheby’s auction during Monterey Car Week in August. Arriving in the US in February 1962 as a chassis without an engine, Carroll Shelby and his team fitted a Dean Moon 260 cubic-inch Ford V8 and four-speed gearbox under its British skin. From that, the Cobra legend was born.
