2018 COMMODORE

-

It’s like a metaphor for Australian culture these days; utterly neutered, tamed, passive, dull and easily dismissed. What a complete triumph of mediocrity. As someone who owns old, real Holdens and has loved them since I was very young, I can’t find one thing about this car that would inspire a child as young as I was when I first saw them and thought, “Cool!” Cody Gt, via Facebook

I have no qualm with it being badged a Holden, but it needs a name other than Commodore. When the Kingswood was retired, so was the name. This new generation needs a new one. Andrew Knight, via Facebook

I’m sure all the naysayers will bemoan the loss of V8s, rearwheel drive, etc, but really it’s time to move on, folks. This is a very classy looking car. Richard Chester, via Facebook

What’s all the fuss about the Commodore name? Commodore is a model designation invented by General Motors for the Opel brand and was used on Opels for years before it was ever stuck on a Holden. So no point in getting all possessive about it, it’s possible GM may choose to use it on some other model in future. For now they think there’s still equity in Holden Commodore, so they’re continuing to brand vehicles destined for the Australian market that way. Unlikely that will change for some time. Cliff Morham, via Facebook

Good that they’ve gone for Twinster over Haldex AWD system. They may even be able to tune it (as Ford has in the Focus RS) to provide a bit of RWD bias. Richard Houlton, via Facebook

I think the car looks good, as does the interior. If you don’t like that it is imported then go and buy another imported car; we no longer have the option.

My VF Calais V is the best car I have ever owned, and I’ve had a lot of Holdens. This new ‘Commodore’ will need to be really good to impress me.

And Holden better make sure the indicators are on the right side. We will wait to see. Bob, via Web
